It was first found in western part of US (Wyoming) which was 40-60 million years ago, the inland sea. Turritella was an ancient sea snail with small shell and long tapering spire with various whorls. The small shells have been completely replaced by agate and chalcedony. And recognized from embedded sea creatures and snail markings on stone. It is then polished for weeks to give smooth and glossy surface
